Hey there 2021!

Nice to see you!

I don’t think that the world has had cause to hold its collective breath together for a very long time. I absolutely loved the internet meme saying “for the first second of 2021, hindsight is 20/20” Indeed it was. Enough said!

We have managed isolation without much difficulty given our lifestyle. Annoying not to see our friends but that has forced a bunch of us ( looking at myself) to get a lot friendlier with technology. I feel very fortunate to have the means of a computer but more importantly I have a good friend.

Her name is Lindsey, our history is interesting as I always felt that we were connected. We met over fibre, what else.

Over the years we have been each others shoulders and have always had each others backs. She is the designer and goddess of the website and the one who holds the social media end of my life together.

She is the photographer behind the photos of the farm and has actually finally made me understand about taking pictures without breaking into a sweat. She is also an incredible fibre artist. Her spinning batts which can be found on her page of the commerce section are an absolute delight.

I love her passion for fibre, people, not being afraid to query, for being brave and life. Thank you Lindsay ,for everything you do for me and those around you. Thank you for being my friend and kicking my ass, as usual , you were right.

The hope is that you will hear from me on an at least a bi weekly basis. Might not be much but hey, what ever.  I will chat about the sheep, the dogs, the horses, and farm life in general

I will take pictures of the garden and tell you what grows in there. You can watch the seasons change in the orchard if you want to see pictures of it- Let me know! This year I intend to break ground on a natural dye garden. We can do that together in pictures.

You can see the lambs that are being born this year . Earlier today I recorded a video of “fleece washing 101- for small spaces” Give it a watch- at some point we will work through a fleece together- . Same as knitting a sweater using the EPS system. Maybe it should be the hand spun from the fleece you watched me work through. I love fleeces- so much potential.

Right off, Chris and I would like to thank you from the very bottom of our hearts for your support during this pandemic. Without the fibre shows our future was looking pretty grim, because of your purchases, we could feed the sheep and stay afloat. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

So, what am I doing? I am working with our animals. We have lambs coming in early May. It has been a few years since we have had lambs on the farm but it is time to replace some ewes to maintain a young breedable genetic pool. We created the flock room by allowing two small breeding flocks to go to new homes. They will be well cared for there. The Romeldale/CVM breed is endangered so we are hoping to import some new genetics after the border opens back up and increase the flocks of these fabulous sheep in Canada.

I also have many projects on the go and many more on the horizon. I am a process person, the final result is to be celebrated indeed ,but it is really the journey that I love. I don't tend to make resolutions but I do make intentions. This year my intentions included amongst other things, that I must finish all the knitting projects started before casting on anymore. As I am a wise woman, I made sure that I spent a good chunk - as in most of December 31- casting on projects.

That way the ones I really have been drooling over are legal! Cast on and 1row? Game on!!! So- here is the current knitting project- Pattern Cobblestone Cardigan- Brooklyn Tweed. My fibre is Our Shropshire- which will be up on the web site Saturday.  Pics to follow on next Blog.  I am just finishing the plying on my sisters Christmas presents- Yes - they are going to be late - Next I will finish spinning my portion of the 4 sisters project -the tale of which will be a future post. I am spinning some samples of the new “ web site update on Saturday” spinning delights. They are fun. I have nothing on the loom at this time but will likely putting on a warp next Sunday. We had two sweet wee barn kittens  learning to be social in the house ,pre adoption and they are absolutely not compatible with warps. There is also a needlepoint and a half hooked rug hanging out somewhere. Remember- no point rushing these things.

Okay, thats about it for now, drop me a note, is there something you want to see on the blog?

Again, from the very bottom of the sheep’s stomachs,Thank you, stay safe, stay well, stay kind, wool is better than petroleum.
